Course Objectives
By the end of this 2-day course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and importance of a Permit to Work (PTW) system in high-risk work environments.
- Interpret and apply RSA OHS legal requirements and industry standards relevant to PTW systems.
- Identify different types of permits and match them to associated hazardous tasks.
- Demonstrate knowledge of permit workflow processes – from initiation to closure.
- Clarify the roles, responsibilities, and competencies of supervisors, permit issuers, and workers.
- Apply risk identification and control measures within the PTW framework.
- Manage permit-related documentation, communication, and recordkeeping effectively.
- Supervise the safe execution of work under permit conditions, including during suspensions and emergencies.
- Critically evaluate PTW failures and implement corrective measures through lessons learned.
- Demonstrate compliance and leadership in enforcing PTW systems in line with SAQA Unit Standard 120359.
